Business Class
The Business Class Immigrant program was designed to attract immigrants who have
abilities and resources to invest or establish businesses in Canada. Under the Canadian
model, business immigrants can enjoy the benefits of a national health care program,
affordable first class education and a national pension system that

provides measurable annual income upon retirement.
Business immigrants are expected to make a $400,000 investment or to own and manage
businesses in Canada.
Canada has three classes of business immigrants, each with separate eligibility
criteria: investors, entrepreneurs and self-employed persons. Each application can
be made for only one class and once the application is submitted, the class cannot
be changed.
Investors: The Immigrant Investor Program (IIP) allows applicants
with business experience and a legally obtained minimum net worth of $800,000 to
immigrate to Canada provided that they make an investment of $400,000.
The $400,000 investment is administered by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC)
and is fully guaranteed by the Canadian provinces that use the investment to create
jobs and help their economies grow.
CIC will return your $400,000 investment, without interest, approximately five years
and two months after payment.
Entrepreneurs: The Entrepreneur program is designed to encourage
the entry of experienced business people to Canada who are able to make a substantial
investment and thereby create employment and contribute to the economic growth of
Canada.
The Entrepreneur Program allows applicants with business experience and a legally
obtained minimum net worth of $300,000 to immigrate to Canada provided that they
commit to managing and owning at least one-third of a business of a defined size
for at least one year within three years of landing in Canada.
There are conditions applied to an Entrepreneur's Canadian Immigration Visa. An
entrepreneur must establish or buy a business in Canada. There is no set amount
to invest, but it should be sufficient to establish the business within two years,
while supporting the entrepreneur and his family. The entrepreneur is expected to
participate actively in managing the business. The business must contribute to the
Canadian economy and create one or more jobs in Canada in addition to the jobs created
for the entrepreneur and his family. The entrepreneur is admitted on the condition
that these requirements are met within two years of landing, and is expected to
meet regularly with an immigration officer to monitor compliance with the terms
and conditions.
Self-employed persons: The Self-Employed Persons Program seeks
to attract applicants who have the intention and ability to become self-employed
in Canada. Self-employed persons are required to have either
- relevant experience that will enable them to make
a significant contribution to the cultural or athletic life of Canada, or
- experience in farm management and the intention
and ability to purchase and manage a farm in Canada
Conditions of permanent residence are not imposed on Self Employed persons. There
is no minimum investment level for a self-employed person. The capital required
depends on the character of the business. The applicant must have a sufficient amount
to create an employment for himself and support his/her family. The applicant must
show that he/she has been able to support himself and family through his/her talents
and would be likely to continue to do so in Canada. This includes the ability to
be self-supporting until his employment will be created.
